New landscape creates vibrant exterior gathering areas, a new activity lawn, and a public art installation that enrich the campus experience.
The Founders Hall renovations and additions support the mission of the Allied Health, Nursing & Physical Education Program at Naugatuck Valley Community College. The new Center for Health Services serves a variety of health science related programs with health care simulation labs, classrooms, offices, and study areas, in addition to a large multipurpose community room and lecture hall. The goals of the university and campus are also strengthened by the LEED Gold certification received for this project, which exceeds the original target of a LEED Silver classification.
The site design creates exterior gathering spaces while maintaining accessibility throughout the site and building entrances. Demolition of the existing annex introduced the opportunity for an activity lawn space adjacent to the new South Terrace and Entry Plaza. Planting design was carefully coordinated with the College in order to expand the existing campus arboretum and create seasonal interest for students, staff, and visitors to enjoy. A public art installation, influenced by the building and site, is framed by entry plaza seating alcoves and luscious plant beds.
