Bridgeport, CT
Revitalization of an existing park and a former industrial site into a vibrant community space with new recreation areas, a plaza, and upgraded facilities for residents and nearby schools.
The Went Field Park improvements project transformed a 10-acre site on Bridgeport’s West Side into a new community space. An existing 6-acre park was expanded with the remediation of an abandoned 4-acre industrial brownfield parcel to create this revitalized community hub.
At the heart of the park is a community plaza and promenade which connect the surrounding neighborhoods. An expanded children’s playground and other new amenities like a pavilion, pergola, and expanded parking area make the space more accessible and enjoyable for all. Athletic facilities were expanded to serve the community as well as the neighboring Bassick High School and Elias Howe Elementary School, making the park a cornerstone for recreation, education, and community life.
