Hebron, CT
Extensive community park featuring diverse recreational amenities, natural area preservation, and adaptive re-use of historic farm structures.
Richter & Cegan led the landscape architectural design for this 71-acre community park, transforming a former poultry farm into a new town recreational facility. At the heart of the project was a commitment to honoring the site’s heritage—preserving the original farmhouse and repurposing the historic barn as the new home for Hebron’s Parks and Recreation offices and Public Works facilities.
Designed to serve a wide range of community needs, the park features two baseball fields, a multi-purpose field, and dedicated soccer and football/lacrosse fields. A concession stand, picnic pavilion, ample parking, and an interconnected network of walking trails and pedestrian paths make the park a welcoming destination for both active recreation and leisurely enjoyment.
Environmental stewardship played a key role in design. Sensitive natural areas were carefully preserved and enhanced, while an additional 40.5 acres—protected under a CTDEEP open space easement—provides a seamless connection to the Salmon River State Forest, expanding the park’s value as both a recreational and ecological asset.
