West Hartford, CT
Meandering paths and vegetated buffers preserve the site’s natural character while integrating the historic renovated and new buildings into the surrounding neighborhood.
Originally constructed in 1908 as a boarding school for girls, Hamilton Heights is situated near Hartford’s historic west end. In 1983 the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Through historic renovation and new additions, the property was transformed into residences for seniors. The original building was renovated and converted to an assisted living facility while two new age-restricted housing units were added to expand the facilities.
Richter & Cegan is responsible for the planning and site design for the expanded housing and landscape improvements. The grounds feature a meandering path through the rolling terrain of the campus with views along the way of meadows and pine groves located on site. A courtyard provides an area central to the residences for outdoor enjoyment on a pleasant day. Vegetated buffers are maintained or improved along the adjacent properties for the surrounding residential neighborhood.
