Sustainably designed landscape that preserves natural areas, integrating a new technology center into a scenic site overlooking downtown Albany and the Hudson River.

Located on the Rensselaer Technology Park campus, this state-of-the-art 125,000 SF research and lab facility sits on a plateau at the center of the site with views out to the south and west toward downtown Albany and the Hudson River. Richter & Cegan provided master planning and landscape architectural services for this first phase of the campus development. Subsequent phases include Global Headquarters and an additional research facility, along with expanded parking.

The client and design team’s dedication to sustainable design resulted in several features that were incorporated into the overall project. The approach to the site design minimizes impacts to the mature wooded areas and adjacent wetlands. Other sustainable initiatives include optimal building orientation, rain gardens, a bio-detention pond, the conversion of lawn to native meadows and the use of native plantings to reduce water consumption.
