Torrington, CT

Transformation of a historic 1908 mill into a residential community with a landscape design that honors its history, including a custom millstone-inspired fountain.

In the heart of Torrington, Richter & Cegan provided comprehensive landscape architectural services for the rehabilitation and conversion of this historic mill into residential condominiums. Built in 1908, the mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes six buildings within the mill complex. The site design integrates pedestrian walkways, resident parking, a wooden bridge crossing at the entry drive, and landscape plantings into the historic site. A custom water fountain reflecting a large mill stone is featured at the main entry. Every element enhances and honors the mill’s historic charm while supporting its new residential purpose.
